Intensive Care Nursery Follow-Up Program

The Intensive Care Nursery (ICN) Follow-Up Program assesses the neurodevelopmental progress of infants discharged from UCSF's Intensive Care Nursery. Infants who are followed for growth and development include those weighing less than 1500 grams at birth, babies who received ECMO treatment or fetal surgical intervention, and other at-risk infants.

The program provides the following services.

  • Parent support after discharge
  • Early identification of developmental disabilities and referral for rehabilitative services
  • Liaison with community public health nursing services and other local agencies involved in the care of the child
  • Track patient outcome data to optimize patient care in the Intensive Care Nursery and for research purposes

Our core staff consists of a neonatologist trained in developmental and behavioral pediatrics, a psychologist, a nurse, a coordinator and a physical therapy consultant. We see patients in our San Francisco office as well as in satellite clinics in Clear Lake, Eureka, Salinas, Santa Rosa, Ukiah and Willits, with clinics at other sites as needed.
