

Heart failure occurs when the heart is unable to effectively pump blood to the other organs of the body. This can have many different causes, including infections that damage otherwise normal heart muscle, problems with the structures within the heart that occur from birth, drugs that are necessary to treat other diseases like cancer, problems with the heart's electrical system, and muscular dystrophies. In all of these situations, the heart muscle fails to function normally and the heart becomes an inefficient pump.
