The Pediatric Arrhythmia Center is known worldwide for the evaluation and treatment of children with a variety of cardiac arrhythmias, or abnormal heart rhythms. Electrophysiology, a subspecialty of cardiology, is a rapidly growing field on the forefront of discovering cures and new treatments for all forms of arrhythmias.
Over the past two decades, tremendous advances have been made in understanding the mechanisms of cardiac arrhythmias in children. UCSF has a history of innovation and is a leader in advancing the assessment of the heart's electrical functions. In the 1980s, doctors at UCSF Medical Center pioneered the use of catheter ablation, a treatment that destroys or disrupts parts of the electrical pathways causing arrhythmias. Today, we use this technique to successfully treat a variety of arrhythmias.
Our team of experienced electrophysiologists, nurses and technicians is devoted to the care of children with abnormal heartbeats. We perform hundreds of procedures each year, including ablations and heart rhythm device implants.
The Pediatric Arrhythmia Center is part of the combined pediatric arrhythmia service at UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital and Lucille Packard Children's Hospital at Stanford.
